Asphalt Settlement Repair in a Residential Area – A Fast and Low-Impact Solution with MeriRoad Equipment

A sunken section of asphalt on a residential street was repaired efficiently and with minimal disturbance to the surrounding area by using on-site asphalt recycling with MeriRoad equipment. The damage was local in nature, caused by settlement in the underlying structure, and did not require extensive excavation or material replacement.

The repair was carried out by milling open the damaged asphalt and immediately reusing the processed material to reshape the base layer. The milled asphalt and underlying materials were mixed and reprofiled into a stable, load-bearing foundation, after which a new asphalt surface was applied. This approach restored the structural integrity of the road quickly and in a controlled manner, without the need for mass replacement.

Fast execution minimises disruption in residential areas

The small size of the site made it possible to complete the work quickly and efficiently, which is especially important in residential environments. The road could be opened and restored within a short time frame, without the need for heavy machinery or continuous truck traffic. As a result, there was no “truck parade” blocking the street, reducing noise, dust, and traffic inconvenience for residents.

Because the milling and recycling were carried out entirely on-site, no materials had to be hauled away and no new materials were brought in. This significantly reduced traffic at the worksite, improved safety, and made the repair far less intrusive for the surrounding neighbourhood.

On-site recycling delivers a cost- and emission-efficient solution

The combination of the MeriRoad RC90-221 DTG milling crusher and the MPC-375 soil compactor enables efficient reuse of asphalt and base materials exactly where the damage occurs. By reusing the existing material, both costs and project duration are reduced, while CO₂ emissions are significantly lower compared to traditional repair methods.

This method is particularly well suited for small and medium-sized repair sites where speed, flexibility, and minimal disturbance are essential. The result was a smooth, stable, and durable repair that returned the road to service quickly and cleanly.
